Craniosacral Therapy

The Dictionary Describes Craniosacral Therapy as:

" A holistic healing practice that uses very light touching to balance the Craniosacral system in the body, which includes the bones, nerves, fluids, and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area."

What is The History of Craniosacral Therapy?

Dr. William Sutherland in the early 1900's spoke about the movement of the cranium and the pelvis.  In the 1970s Dr. John Upledger, an osteopathic physician, expanded on the work of Dr. Sutherland creating what is now known as Craniosacral Therapy.

What is The Craniosacral System?

The Craniosacral system is a passageway that connects the
cranium or brain, the spine and the sacrum.  The system is surrounded by a continuous web of fascia where cerebrospinal fluid flows within.  This system represents a network known as the central nervous system.

Craniosacral therapy allows the practitioner to feel the pulse or movement of cerebrospinal fluid while at the same time balancing the bones of the cranium.   It is a very gentle practice that allows the entire system to become balanced relieving a lot of tension throughout your body including muscles spasms, inflammation, headaches or chronic pain.  It is a technique that helps to balance and relax the entire body and is a very effective technique to use for a variety of disorders such as headaches, TMJ and vertigo.  It is also a powerful way to end the treatment session after using  Myofascial Release or Muscle Energy Techniques.
